History.
松本道弘氏は昭和15年大阪府豊中市に生まれました。高校の校長が英語の臨時授業を行なった時、松本道弘氏は英語学習に注力するようになりました。関西学院大学商学部を卒業し、日商岩井に勤務する間に独力で英語を磨いた後、松本道弘氏は西山千氏に師事し、西山氏の推挙でアメリカ大使館の同時通訳者となりました。その後NHK教育テレビ上級英語講座の講師、産業能率短期大学助教授、国際基督教大学講師、名古屋外国語大学教授などを経て、現在、ホノルル大学教授を勤めています。
Matsumoto was born in Toyonaka City, Osaka Prefecture in 1940. When his high school's president teacher conducted a temporary English lesson, he started to contribute his energy to English study. After graduation from the Commerce Department of Kwansai Gakuin University, Matsumoto taught himself English without having been abroad even once while he worked for Nissho Iwai Corporation. Then he studied under NISHIYAMA Sen and became a simultaneous interpreter of the American Embassy on the recommendation of Nishiyama. Afterwards, he was a senior instructor of English conversation for the NHK Educational Channel, an assistant professor of Sanno College, an instructor of International Christian University, and a professor of Nagoya University of Foreign Studies and serves as a professor of Honolulu University.

また、現在インターネットテレビNONES CHANNELで米TIME誌の解説番組「TIMEを読む」に毎週出演し、TIME誌と公式契約がある唯一の日本人となっています。 Additionally, he appears on the Internet TV program "How To Read TIME" on NONES CHANNEL every week that interprets American magazine TIME and is the only Japanese who is under official engagement with it.

松本道弘氏は、高校生の頃に柔道で体を鍛えました。大学時代にその腕前は三段になるほどで、街の道場の師範からオリンピックを目指すよう誘われたものの、自身がスポーツ選手ではなく武道家であるとの想いから、武道の心を英語に吹き込んだ独自の「英語道」を提唱し、旧岩井産業時代から土曜ESSで司会および運営にあたり、英語道場へと発展させました。松本道弘氏は、昭和61年に私塾「弘道館」を開き、平成17年にこれを「紘道館」と改称しました。その後英語道に基づいた検定試験「ICEE(Inter-Cultural-English-Exchange:異文化コミュニケーション能力検定)」を年1回主催しています。
Matsumoto got his body in shape at his high school time by Judo. During his undergraduate days, he was as skillful as to hold Third dan and to be spotted to aim for the Olympics by a ground master of a dōjō on the street. But he put forward his unique thought "EIGO-DŌ" which was the approach to put the Samurai spirit into English out of the belief that he himself was not a sports player but a martial artist, started taking the chair and running ESS on Saturday since former Iwai Sangyo time and developed it to English Dōjō. He opened his private school "KŌDŌ-KAN" in 1986 and changed its Kanji spelling in 2005. After that he supervises an annual licensing examination "ICEE" based on EIGO-DŌ.

暗記するのではなく、忘れること。
Not memorising. Unlearning.
たった一つの単語を忘れないでおこうとするよりも、多くの英文を読んだほうが言葉により多く触れられるということに松本道弘氏は気づきました。「必死になって覚えようとするのではなく、自然に覚えられるものは覚え、忘れてしまうものは忘れてしまっていいのです」と松本道弘氏は言います。「自然な英語を何度も繰り返し聴いていれば、砂漠に水がしみ込むように、自然に耳にしみついてしまうからです。英語上達のためには、早く丸暗記文化から卒業することです」。その成果は國弘正雄氏の目から見ても驚異的でした。「教材の英語は、「絶対に覚えなきゃならない」と思って聴いてしまうので、かえって逆効果です」
With more English sentences, Matsumoto found that English learners' exposure to English words was much more than when they try to keep in mind just one word. "You can learn what you pick up, unlearn what you would forget and not try to memorise it hard," says Matsumoto. "If you listen natural English repeatedly, that would be dyed in your ear like water sinks into the desert. The way to bring on your English is to grow out of rote learning culture soon." And the results were, in KUNIHIRO Masao's eyes, phenomenal. "Textbook English gives rise to the listening with the thought of having to memorise it for certain that it only serves to have the opposite effect."
